December 18th, the International Day of Migrants' Rights

Mont Blanc Tunnel. A truck carrying sewing machines is crossing it, heading for France. An accident killed 28 people hidden in the trailer, Malians, travelling to France looking for a job and better living conditions. It was 1972 and their death focused the attention of the United Nations on the conditions of migrant workers, until the adoption of the International Convention for the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families, which took place on 18 December 1990 .

This is why today, December 18th, we celebrate the International Day of Migrants' Rights, to remind us that migration must have full dignity in all its forms .
