The Swedish Agency for Youth & Society (MUCF)hosted the Gender & LGBTQ Working Group for the Becoming Part of Europe (BpE) project. A two-day workshop at the end of May aimed to develop recommendations to improve policies related to young migrants, refugees and asylum seekers taking into account a gender perspective.
During the seminar the need of different kinds of education for youth workers was raised as a main challenge and also as learning need later on. Within the educational activities the use of role-play as a way to bring up sensitive issues for discussion and in that way raise awareness is a very innovative and inspiring idea. The lack of funding, the shift in public opinion and the political climate regarding refugees are the major difficulties faced. The discussions were divided into different perspectives – the asylum system, reception system and inclusion. The seminar ended up with a considerable number of recommendations that will be further discussed during the Second European Peer Learning conference in Slovenia.
